We are seeking an exceptional Head of Toxicology & Ecotoxicology (m/f/d) to lead our global team of experts in providing strategic scientific guidance on chemical safety, regulatory compliance, and sustainable product development. This pivotal leadership role will drive the implementation of cutting-edge AI and computational toxicology methodologies to support Clariant's transition to an innovative and sustainable product portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead global team of 7 toxicology/ecotoxicology experts, managing resources, budgets, and strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement toxicology/ecotoxicology regulatory standards, risk reduction strategies, and compliance frameworks aligned with global requirements (REACH, OECD, FDA, EPA, ECHA).
- Drive adoption of AI-driven predictive models, computational toxicology, and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to replace traditional animal testing.
- Advise senior management on product safety issues critical to regulatory compliance and sustainable business growth.
- Coordinate chemical regulatory risk assessments, study monitoring, and manage contracts with Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
- Maintain strategic relationships with regulatory authorities and industry associations to ensure regulatory intelligence and organizational alignment.
- Provide expert toxicological advice to Group Emergency Management and deliver specialized training across the organization.
- Support business units with risk communication strategies and sustainable product consultation.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Toxicology, Ecotoxicology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related scientific discipline.
- Extensive experience in regulatory toxicology and product safety within chemical, pharmaceutical, or related industries, with proven leadership of multidisciplinary scientific teams.
- Deep expertise in experimental toxicology (traditional and alternative methodologies), regulatory frameworks (REACH, OECD, FDA, EPA, ECHA), and computational toxicology/AI-driven modeling.
- Strategic thinking and business acumen with demonstrated ability to develop initiatives balancing compliance, innovation, and sustainability.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with ability to engage regulatory authorities, industry associations, and translate complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences.
- Innovation mindset with track record of driving adoption of emerging technologies in toxicological assessment.
