Advanced Process Control Lead Engineer (m/f/d)

As APC Lead Engineer, you will be the driving force behind the design, development, and deployment of Advanced Process Control solutions across Clariant's global manufacturing sites. Working at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, process control, project management, you will shape APC as a core capability within the Digital Projects Team. You will define technology roadmaps, operating models, and training strategies to ensure long-term, measurable impact. What will you be doing?

  • Lead end-to-end APC implementation — manage the full lifecycle of APC projects including Model Predictive Control and real-time optimization across global manufacturing sites.
  • Shape the APC strategy — define project scope, architecture, implementation roadmaps, and technology direction to build APC as a core Clariant capability.
  • Develop process models and dynamic simulations to support robust and effective control strategy design.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with plant operations, Engineering & Process Technology teams, and Business Units Managers to identify and prioritize APC opportunities.
  • Integrate APC with digital platforms by partnering with the Data Science and Data Engineering team to connect APC solutions with AI and advanced analytics tools.
  • Monitor performance and drive improvement — define KPIs, track business impact, conduct root cause analyses, and continuously refine control models.
  • Establish standards and best practices for APC governance across Clariant, ensuring consistency and operational excellence.
  • Build internal APC competency through knowledge transfer, training programs, documentation, and mentoring upon solution handover.
 


 
What are we looking for?

  • Education: Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years in Advanced Process Control, DCS integration, and process optimization in the chemical, petrochemical, or specialty chemicals industry;
    • 5+ years in project management and digital solution implementation.
  • Skills: strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving mindset; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible language; work independency; passion for digital innovation.
  • Languages:
    • Advanced English required;
    • German is a plus.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally on a frequent basis.
