The Applied Catalyst Technology Engineer for the Catalyst Business Unit in The Woodlands, TX or Louisville, KY plays a pivotal role at the intersection of cutting-edge catalyst technology and customer success, driving both technical excellence and commercial wins throughout the sales cycle. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to make direct impact through hands-on field work, leading catalyst loading, startup operations, and troubleshooting while leveraging Clariant's advanced proprietary design programs and digital solutions to optimize customer performance. As a trusted technical advisor, you'll collaborate across sales, R&D, production, and product management teams, shape the future of catalyst applications through knowledge management and innovation, and help develop the next generation of technical experts while continuously advancing your own expertise in this specialized field.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete technical service process throughout the sales cycle, delivering winning technical proposals and agreements that drive business growth
  • Plan and execute onsite catalyst services including loading, startup, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal customer operations (requires travel to customer sites)
  • Conduct performance evaluations, predictions, and projections utilizing Clariant's proprietary design programs and digital solutions
  • Partner with customers to optimize operations and maximize catalyst performance and efficiency
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers, managing all technical interactions and providing strategic feedback to internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with technology advisors, production, R&D, sales, and product management to advance catalyst applications and solutions
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and articulating value propositions for catalyst applications
  • Develop and maintain technical design guidelines and operating manuals to support best practices
  • Analyze commercial data and case studies to enhance design and calculation tools for improved accuracy and efficiency
  • Contribute to training and development programs, helping build technical expertise across sales and support teams

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Chemistry, or related technical discipline
  • 1-5+ years of experience in chemical plant process engineering, catalyst technology, or technical service role
  • Technical and analytical problem-solving skills with ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences including customers, sales teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Proficiency in technical software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Required travel up to 50% throughout North and South America
  • Work authorization in the US, with the ability to travel to Canada
