Reliability Engineer
Clariant is seeking a skilled Reliability Engineer to support our Catalysts business unit in Louisville, KY. This role is based in a highly specialized chemical manufacturing facility, therefore, prior experience in the chemical industry is critical. Comparable experience in distilleries or meat processing is also valued. In this role, you will enhance equipment reliability through hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. Candidates must have experience with reactors, filters, condensers, and compressors. You should be able to disassemble equipment, identify issues, and implement effective solutions. This role works closely with maintenance teams to minimize downtime, develop preventive and predictive maintenance plans, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities
• Conduct direct, on-site inspections and hands-on troubleshooting to promptly identify equipment issues and their root causes
• Review equipment design, operation manuals, and maintenance history to fully understand asset performance and failure modes
• Collaborate with vendors and technical experts to implement best practices and proven solutions for enhancing equipment reliability
• Lead the implementation and continuous refinement of maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive programs, to maximize equipment availability
• Update and maintain accurate maintenance procedures, technical documentation, and training materials to reflect improvements and lessons learned
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as equipment uptime, mean time between failures, and maintenance costs
• Coach and develop the technical skills of the maintenance team through hands-on mentoring, formal training, and knowledge sharing
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, Clariant’s ESHA standards, and internal policies
• Support capital projects and reliability improvements by performing risk assessments, FMEAs, and criticality analyses to prioritize resources effectively
• Provide engineering insights to influence equipment design and operational practices that align with long-term reliability and operational excellence goals
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, required
• Minimum of 5 - 10 years in a maintenance and/or reliability engineering function within a manufacturing or process industry environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP Plant Maintenance (PM).
• Strong understanding of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies; Green Belt certification is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills
