Sr. Applied Catalyst Technology Engineer

Clariant is currently looking for a Senior Applied Catalyst Technology Engineer to support our Catalysts business in the Americas. Reporting to the Head of Applied Catalyst Technology, Americas, this regional role provides advanced technical service and works in close partnership with Sales throughout the customer sales cycle. The Senior Applied Catalyst Technology Engineer will serve as a key technical resource for customers, providing catalyst performance evaluations, technical proposals, operating optimization, onsite support, troubleshooting, and recommendations designed to maximize catalyst performance and process efficiency. This position will also collaborate closely with Technology Advisors, R&D, Production, Sales, and Product Management to strengthen technical capabilities and continuously improve our catalyst applications and solutions. This is a customer-facing role requiring flexibility in working hours and the ability to travel, sometimes on short notice. Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete technical service process throughout the sales cycle, working in tandem with Sales to provide strong technical support and develop competitive technical proposals and agreements.
  • Plan and execute onsite technical services for assigned catalyst applications, including catalyst loading, startup support, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct catalyst performance evaluations, predictions, and projections using Clariant proprietary design programs and digital solutions.
  • Evaluate customer operating conditions and recommend optimization strategies to maximize catalyst performance, improve process efficiency, and address technical challenges.
  • Manage technical interactions with customers, build effective working relationships, and communicate relevant customer and application feedback to internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with Technology Advisors, Production, R&D, Sales, and Product Management to strengthen technical knowledge and continuously improve the value proposition for assigned applications.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical design guidelines, operating manuals, commercial data, case studies, and design and calculation tools.
  • Support technical knowledge development across the organization by contributing to employee training programs and assisting with the recruiting, training, and development of new Applied Catalyst Technology Engineers and Sales Account Managers in relevant technical areas.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in chemical plant process engineering, catalyst technical service, or a similar technical role.
  • Strong technical problem-solving capabilities with the ability to evaluate operating conditions, catalyst performance, and complex customer challenges and translate findings into practical recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, customer relationship management, project planning, and execution skills, with the ability to influence and provide technical leadership without formal authority.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to support customer and business needs, including flexible working hours and travel, sometimes on short notice.
